Imagery – The Strengthening Power of Inner Images

The variety of stabilizing inner images and their application in trauma treatment

Stabilization is the foudation and the core of every trauma treatment. It forms the beginning and – like a riverbed – the framework in which the entire course of treatment is embedded.

Among the many stabilizing approaches and methods, our imagination is of special significance. With its help, we can directly influence our mental and physical well-being and, for example, calm ourselves down, feel safe or reduce rage and inner tension. Furthermore, we can use them to nourish wounded inner parts. Thus, they are a wonderful tool that can have a multifaceted and comprehensive stabilizing and healing effect.

Through the holistic experience of an inner image, which encompasses image, feeling and body (body sensations, posture and movement impulses), its effect can be significantly enhanced. Therfore, we can support our clients very effectively and comprehensively with holistically experienced images. In addition, we can provide them with a tool that enables them to help themselves in terms of empowerment and thus supports them in their healing process as well as in regaining autonomy and self-determination.
